In the #MeToo era, many women have come forward with sexual assault allegations against many celebrities who have abused their power. Most recently, Deshawn Watson.
Sixteen allegations of sexual assault and inappropriate conduct against Watson have surfaced as of Tuesday night. The Jane Doe allegations are mostly from masseuses at massage parlors that Watson visited.
The allegations have ignited a fierce controversy over the legitimacy of the claims because Watson had recently made it known that he no longer wanted to stay in Houston.
Watson's lawyer, Rusty Hardin, released a statement on March 23 that questioned the legitamacy of the claims based on possible blackmail from one of Watson's accusers.
Claims such as this are damaging to the case against Watson, but some allegations are more powerful than others. As the situation evolves, more details and accuracy will come to light.
However, many still side with the victims and stand in support of the allegations.
In wake of the mounting sexual assault allegations, the Texans have yet to release Watson, which is only spurring more questions about the legitamacy of allegations.
The Watson claims have also brought attention to former Seahawks player Chad Wheeler, who assaulted his girlfriend in January 2020 and is currently facing charges.
But, not all NFL players are reeling in the negativity of recent allegations; on March 24, Patriots offensive tackle Justin Herron intervened to stop as sexual assault in Arizona and is now being hailed a hero.
Through the sea of allegations, the weight of the #MeToo movement and Watson's controversy, there is a growing limelight against sexual misconduct and the decreasing tolerance for such behaviors. As this story unfolds Watson's career is nothing short of up in the air.
